Debut author Gary Born erupts into the literary scene with a nail-biting thriller centered on international espionage in “The File.” Leaning into his experience as a preeminent international lawyer, Born weaves an exciting tale that spans Africa, the Middle East and Europe in a relentless pursuit of WWII Nazi intel that will enthrall the reader from the first page.
Enter Sara West, a tenacious botany graduate student on a scientific expedition in the heart of the African jungle. During her research, she stumbles upon a cache of WWII Nazi files in the wreck of a German bomber hidden deep within the jungle. Those hidden files reveal the location of a multibillion-dollar war chest, secretly deposited by the Nazis in numbered Swiss bank accounts at the end of WWII. But Sara isn’t the only one interested in the war chest. Former KGB agent Ivan Petronov and Franklin Kerrington III, deputy director of the CIA, both have deeply personal reasons for acquiring the files Sara has found.
With two dangerous men — and their teams of hit men — on her trail, will Sara be able to escape the jungle alive?

Excerpt
They hurried into the hallway, then down the stairs. He led the way, keeping an eye out for survivors from the firefight. The ground floor of the Bank was a scene of total devastation. Emergency lighting cast a harsh glare over a tangle of bodies, wrecked furniture, and large pieces of walls and ceiling. The floor was littered with spent cartridges and discarded weapons, and splattered with blood. A half dozen fires burned, their smoke mixing with the stench of gunpowder. Outside, the sirens were very close now. She hoped he had a plan to avoid the police.
He led them to the rear of the building, then down a flight of stairs and outside. As Reid said, a large white ambulance waited nearby. He went ahead, leaving her by the staircase, hidden in the shadows. He slipped up to the driver’s side of the ambulance, tapped on the window, then waited for it to open. When it did, he delivered a vicious blow with the butt of his gun and then dragged the unlucky sentry out of the vehicle, leaving him on the pavement.
He climbed into the driver’s seat, opened the passenger door and waited for her to get in, then pulled the vehicle out onto the street. He switched on the siren after half a block and sped away, past the oncoming motorcade of police and military vehicles. It looked like he had a plan after all. She should have known. She smiled to herself.
