The untimely death of EJ Hampton’s father kills her dream of practicing law with him in her hometown of Wylder. Heartbroken, she now has two weeks to organize the practice for sale. When she meets her father’s millionaire client Dylan Addison, he is demanding and entitled—yet his charisma captivates her.
Dylan is under pressure to renovate the Wylder Hotel before his father pulls the plug on his project. He needs EJ’s expertise, but she is bent on returning to her life in San Francisco despite the fireworks between them.
EJ walks a tightrope trying to balance Dylan’s needs against her own, but doing so is far more complicated when emotions get in the way.

Excerpt
I bit my tongue and tried to come at the problem from a different angle. “Dylan Addison was my father’s client. I’m just here to give my father’s clients the representation they would have gotten from him. So if you would have allowed the permits to go through for my dad, why can’t you let them go through for his client?”
Would he bend if I took myself out of the mix? His brow furrowed. “I didn’t say I would have issued the permits for your dad. I said we worked together to get things done. You and I have no working relationship. You’re an out-of-towner.”
These last words smacked me in the face. Was I really an out-of-towner just because I’d worked in San Francisco for the last six years? My college and law school years away shouldn’t count. And I had intended to come back…someday.
Adam broke into my thoughts. “As I said, I’ll let you know on Friday. Be here at two.” With that he turned and disappeared down the hall.
Great. I’d been in Wylder for less than a day and already been labeled a rule breaker, an outsider, and lacking the nice gene by someone who could be instrumental in burying me and Dylan in paperwork and process while construction lay dormant.
Adam was right about one thing. I’d better learn how to curry favor with the locals by immersing myself back into the community if I intended to help my mother’s situation instead of hurt it.
Even if I had no intention of returning permanently.
