I was granted complimentary PDF access to Twin Tales: Alike and Different as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with iRead Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
This is the story of twin sisters Alexia and Denise and all the ways in which they’re alike and different. I love that it starts with the ways they’re similar, because that’s how identical twins (or even just very visually similar siblings close in age) always seem to strangers when you first meet them. It quickly veers into all the ways in which they’re different, and this takes up most of the book. I loved it! Identical twins may look alike, and most multiples have that special bond that began in the womb, but they’re all very unique individuals who should be celebrated individually.
I loved the gorgeous, fun illustrations in this book and the attention to detail. It was just as much fun to look at as it was to read, and it was an adorable read. Alexia and Denise remind me of all the twins I went to school with. (Yes, all, there were 7 pairs in my grade by high school!) Some were harder to tell apart at first glance than others, but all of them proved to be very different from one another, and most didn’t even keep the same friend groups. In fact, I think only the pair of brothers in my friend group out of the 7 twin pairs in our grade had the same close friends! (Miss you, D.)
I think this book will both do a lot of good making twins feel seen and understood and also helping explain this concept of “twins aren’t the same people” to singleton kids meeting twins (and other multiples) for the first time.
